What format will the World Championships be this year? Jeff Donais, DCI Manager, responds: "The Magic World Championships is a 5 day event. "The first day of competition will be six rounds of Booster draft. The sets used will be Mercadian Masques, Nemesis and Prophecy. "The second day of competition will be six rounds of Standard format. "The third day of competition will be six rounds of Masques Block constructed. The legal sets will be Mercadian Masques, Nemesis and Prophecy. (There will probably be no banned cards). "The fourth day of competition will be the National teams competition. Only the national teams are able to participate. Each four person team will probably receive three tournament packs of Mercadian Masques, 3 boosters of Nemesis and three boosters of Prophecy. They can add as much land as they want. This format is still in DCI testing for play balance. The top two teams will play off in the finals using their Standard decks. Note that this year the members of the top teams will receive Pro Points; the amount of Pro Points they receive will be announced in February. "The fifth day of competition features the Worlds finals. The Top 8 players will play off in single-elimination competition using their Standard decks. The winner will be crowned the 2000 Magic World Champion and receive $35,000."
